Pathways to peace

As a qualified occupational therapist with my Masters in Sensory Integration, and further studies in neurodevelopment, I offer specialised approaches tailored to help women regulate and integrate their nervous systems. These methods are gentle yet powerful, focusing on the innate capacity of our bodies to bring about profound change and lasting calm.

 

Somatic practices

Engage in rhythmic movements and vagus nerve calming techniques to regulate your nervous system and release stored tension. I help you to create your own healing home program.

 

The vagus nerve (we actually have a pair) is our body's main player in switching on our rest and digest or parasympathetic nervous system. We can learn to increase its function so that we can experience long term wellness. If you like, we can track your heart rate variability to see how your vagal nerve function is improving.

 

Rhythmic movements are gentle rocking movements that are highly effective bringing us into our calm, parasympathetic state. Over time, they rewire our nervous system promoting better sleep quality, regulation, and the best foundation for primitive reflex integration. We combine these movements with breath work, and personalised sensory and somatic experiences.

Primitive reflex integration

Identify and integrate retained primitive reflexes to improve your emotional regulation, focus, and overall well-being. I provide you with a home program, which we revise over time, so you can heal at your own pace.

 

In the above image, we are assessing the long term effects of an active primitive Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex for better brain and body balance including the ability to maintain focus, reduce restlessness, and improve posture.

 

Primitive reflexes drive all of our early development from the womb and into the first year of life. Each reflex is beautifully designed to emerge, be expressed through movement, complete its function, and become dormant or integrated. Familiar examples are the grasp reflex and the infant startle reflex. 

 

When these reflex patterns do not fully integrate, or re-emerge after trauma, then our neurodevelopmental foundation is unstable, and our nervous system holds unnecessary stress. We may hold muscle tension, lack fluid movement, overreact to sensory and emotional triggers, and much more.

Personalised coaching

Receive individualised support and guidance tailored to your unique needs for optimal nervous system regulation, and integration. It is time to take care of you!

 

Contact me for a one-on-one personalised session where we meet at your place or at a cafe over coffee to talk about your needs.

 

We follow this with a home session identifying your nervous system state, and what primitive reflexes may be active.

 

This is followed with a couple of sessions on the relaxing techniques for your home program. You then have the option for further sessions to learn how to integrate your active primitive reflexes based on your goals, and my recommendations.

 

You can use NDIS funding, GP Care Plan funding or your private health insurance under the occupational therapy allied health category.

 

I am also available to run workshops for groups of women who would like to learn together in a warm, and supportive environment.

Innate OT was born out of my own journey to heal from trauma, and a deep passion to empower women to find inner healing and calm. I am based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, and I travel to your home to assist you.

 

I have many years' experience and post-graduate training as an occupational therapist. I believe that each woman deserves to live now, and face the future with serenity, joy and confidence.

 

My therapy approach helps you navigate life with greater ease, using gentle yet effective somatic methods to regulate, and integrate your nervous system and unlock your natural resilience.
